Happy holidays, everyone!
Yes, it’s that time of year again. Those few weeks of relaxation (and frantic, last-minute gift shopping; eating too much food; and children hopped-up on sugar).
I’ve officially finished my shopping and gift wrapping! I only ever have a few gifts each holiday season which require wrapping. Usually I pick up some fancy-looking wrapping paper or raid my mother’s extensive gift bag collection. But this year I decided to do something a little out of the ordinary, a little more green, and a little more economically-friendly. I wrapped my gifts in either reused newsprint (cultivated from the kindling basket next to the fireplace) or in a 100% recycled fibre bag, and instead of a plastic ribbon I garnished them with natural hemp rope. My gift tags this year: milkweed, which I had to trek a whole 15 feet down my driveway to harvest.
My brother was the original inspiration. I seem to stick to a particular theme with his gifts and wrapping them in the comics section from the newspaper seems fitting. It is completely by chance (I swear) that the entire package, very entertainingly, now says “I got you socks and underwear.”
